The Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

batb tag

Y’all know by now that I am utter BATB trash. I love it so much. Belle is my ULTIMATE Disney princess, I think she’s just a wonderful, wonderful person. When I saw the Beauty and the Beast book tag floating around, I knew I needed to engage, because, well, I’m predictable AF.

‘Tale as Old as Time’ – A popular theme, trope or setting you will never get bored of reading.

I’m not a massive “trope” lover. However, I am a SUCKER for anything romantic. I read a book recently where they were like “oh yeah we know it’s not going to go anywhere” and to everyone around them, it was CLEAR AS DAY something was going on. So yeah. Or the bad boy who is secretly a proper softie.

Belle – A book you bought for it’s beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful inside too.

Let’s be real, I buy a LOT of books because of their covers. I’m a TOTAL cover fiend. You can’t beat Sara Barnard books though. They have the ultimate sheld appeal – all that metallic sparkly goodness.

Beast – A book you didn’t expect much from but pleasantly surprised you.

Hmmm… this is hard. I don’t know that I have an answer for this one! Let me think about it!

Gaston – A book everyone loves but you don’t.

Oh man, Caraval. Now I don’t NOT love it… but I was just decidely underwhelmed by it. I’m still totally on the fence as to whether I want to read the second one.

Lefou – A loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their counterpart.

Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell has some absolutely amazing “sidekicks”. That story is VERY special.

Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiér, and Cogsworth – A book that helped you through a difficult time or that taught you something valuable.

Oh man, so so many books. I’m going to have to go for Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig. That book is one that I truly believe everyone should own, or at least read once in their lives.

‘Something There’ – A book or a series that you weren’t into at first but picked up towards the end.

The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green. I struggled so hard to get into this book because the first 80% is just set up. I just found it quite a hard slog… but by the end I was into it.

‘Be Our Guest’ – A fictional character you’d love to have over for dinner.

SO MANY. I’d love to have Belle over most though I reckon.

And there you go! Don’t forget to tag me in any tags you’d like to see me do. Tags are becoming a Friday staple on here!

Let me know your thoughts!

BATB Book Tea Party

A while back, I received an email inviting me to a Beauty and the Beast blogger event in London and naturally, being the MASSIVE BATB fan that I am, I accepted the invite and tottled off to London!

My day started at 3:30am – since I needed to get up and get on an early morning train down to London! I had managed to get first class tickets (I know, check me out!) as part of the Virgin Trains East Coast 1st Class Seat sale, for only £30. Bargain. I had numerous cups of tea, some pastries and a soft drink or two on my journey down… I could get used to this first class lifestyle! The staff on the VTEC train were lovely – it was 4:45am, I’m not sure I would’ve been so lovely!! I am not a morning person. On the train down, I started the incredible #ChangeBook, which the wonderful people of Stripes had sent me earlier in the week. A girl always needs some train reading material.

Once I got to London, I hopped on the tube to Covent Garden and even though I was ridiculously early, I needed to get there. Luckily there was a Caffe Nero just along the street so I chilled out there before the event. The event was held in the incredible Covent Garden Hotel – a beautiful setting. The hotel was gorgeous, the staff were very helpful and, despite the fact I walked past it a few times, it was a joy to be there! They showed me to the cinema room (again, how fancy!) and I was introduced to some other lovely bloggers. I had a lovely surprise when my friend Becky (of Becky Bedbug fame) was there!! We had a lovely chat about all things teachering and blogging before the film started!

Once the film was over, there was another gorgeous treat… AFTERNOON TEA. (Fanciest day ever) There were some beautiful sandwiches, amazingly delicious cakes and some incredible scone type things, which I may have had about 4. But hey, it’s there to be eaten! We were each brought a glass of Prosecco too, making it REAL afternoon tea.

As the afternoon tea continued, I got chatting to a few of the other bloggers and it was so lovely to finally get to meet one of the people I’ve been talking to on twitter for so long, my gorgeous friend Liv (of That Fiction Life fame) and the gorgeous Zoe (of No Safer Place fame). Becky, Liv, Zoe and I had a long coversation about Beauty and the Beast, Harry Potter, Dumbledore and unpopular book opinions. It was so much fun! It’s so lovely when you get to meet other bookbloggers and they are just as lovely IRL as they are on twitter. I have definitely made friends forever with these girls!

Alongside the afternoon tea there was a book swap. Each of the bloggers was asked to bring along a book which featured a strong, lead female characters, just as Belle is! I took along ‘Winterkill‘ and ‘Troublemakers‘ and in return I took ‘Aurabel‘ – a book I’ve been meaning to buy FOREVER because it is SO GORGEOUS. There were some brilliant choices brought along by the other bloggers too. You’ve gotta commend a book with a strong lead female character because women are brilliant.

Once the book swap was over and the Prosecco was drank, it was time to leave! I can’t wait to see the girls again next week at YALC.

Thank you so much to Disney UK and Juliana at Premier for the invite! I had an amazing day! Check out the #BATBBookTeaParty hashtag on twitter for more pictures and tweets about the day!

Beauty and the Beast

IT’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST DAY PEOPLE. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. IT IS HAPPENING. I AM EXCITED. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR A LONG TIME. (I was apprehensive at first, but now that it is time… I AM THE MOST EXCITED).

Hello, my name is Steph and I love Beauty and the Beast. I do not remember a time where Beauty and the Beast wasn’t my favourite Disney film. I do not wish to think of a time when Beauty and the Beast will not be my favourite Disney film. I am going to outline now a few reasons why Beauty and the Beast SHOULD be one of your favourite Beauty and the Beast films. Lots of love and all that, x

So here are the reasons why I love the original (I am sure I will have feelings about the new version, and will share them at same point!)…

Image result for beauty and the beast belleBelle: she’s bookish, she’s smart, she stands up for herself against Gaston (who I have strange feelings about… more of that in a minute) and she loves her dad. She locks herself up in Beast’s prison for him! She’s incredible. She sees people for their heart, not for what they look like. She’s curious, she’s inquisitive. She’s BEAUTIFUL too. (I mean duh, Belle is French for beautiful after all).

Image result for beauty and the beast beastBeast: yeah he’s scary, he’s not particularly friendly and he was mean to the witch at the start of the story (which turns him in to a beast in the first place) but watching him change from a hardened, mean, shut off beast to an open, loving, accepting man at the end is wonderful. Look at his daft little face man. He provides many little laughs during the film. The bit with the birds? The bit with the hair? Yep. I like the beast. He’s lovely. And he fights for Belle – he lets her leave when her dad is ill. He physically fights against Gaston. Good old Adam (for those of you who didn’t know… he’s Prince Adam)

Gaston: Image result for beauty and the beast gastonI know, I’m surprised he’s here too. He’s cocky, smarmy and not the kind of fella that I would want to be associated with, but he’s necessary. He’s malicious, sly and sneaky. He’s not the quintessential Disney villain, but he’s certainly one of the most wicked. Plus ‘The Mob Song’ and ‘Gaston’ are particular exceptional songs.

Supporting characters: there are SO MANY characters I love in this story. Mrs Potts, Chip, Cogsworth and Lumiere are particular stand outs for me though. I like Lumiere’s impression he’s suave and sophisticated. I like Cogsworth’s scepticism, he’s the voice of reason. Mrs Potts is the sheer romantic of the group. I love her. Chip and his gorgeous innocence make my heart so happy.

Soundtrack: now here I could just list ALL THE SONGS because the soundtrack to this film is exceptional but I’ll just choose 3. (HELP HOW DO I CHOOSE 3?)

‘Belle’ perfect Belle song. This tells the story of her little town and how she wants more. I know every. single. word. I sing it OFTEN when I’m pretending I am Belle. This song highlights how different Belle is from her townspeople but she remains kind. And it includes a bookshop… SOLD.

‘Gaston’ perfect song for Gaston. Full of his own self importance and how much the ladies are in love with him… except Belle. I can’t help but sing along to this all the time!

‘Mob Song’ – I think this is one of the most underrated songs in the whole soundtrack. It shows Gaston’s menace and macchiavellian ways perfectly. How manipulative he is. How much the people worship him by following him. How Belle tries to fight for her Beast. The Beast just giving up at the end because Belle’s gone. How people change and some are just mean.

Ok, so as you’ve gleaned I LOVE everything about Beauty and the Beast and I could mention so much more, but I’ll leave it there!

Do you agree? Do you love Beauty and the Beast? What are your favourite soundtrack songs? I would love to hear! I love talking Belle and Beast! Let me know in the comments below or on twitter @eenalol.

DISNEY?!

I spend a lot of time championing books on this blog and I thought it was about time that I shared with you all some of my favourite Disney films. Now, I’m not one who loves watching films but I LOVE going to the cinema – I find it holds my attention more than sitting at home watching a film. It’s all about the atmosphere and the ambience… you can’t replicate that at home! I’m going to share my top 5 Disney films (or 5 films that I really love at the minute since my top 5 change QUITE OFTEN).

Beauty and the Beast
OBVIOUSLY. I love this film. I love the soundtrack. I love the animation. I could watch this weekly if I had the time. It’s just such a gorgeous tale of love, acceptance and friendship. I love Belle the most. She is my all time favourite Disney princess – she’s a reader, she’s badass, she doesn’t stand for Gaston’s absolute cockiness… she’s just wonderful. The songs are absolutely wonderful – I think this has one of those soundtracks that I can listen to again and again… and yes, I know all of the words to all of the songs. And the whole film. This film makes me happy and it makes me cry. There are numerous occasions that make me cry. But I love it. The furniture are some of the highlights for me, namely the sassy armoir. (Side note: I am VERY EXCITED for the 2017 live action adaptation, but there is part of me that is SO WORRIED too. I hope they don’t ruin it. I’ve seen the final trailer however and I think it’s going to be wonderful).

Robin Hood
I don’t feel like Robin Hood gets enough praise. It’s one of my favourite Disney films and not enough people enjoy it. Or give it the praise it deserves. I think he is a total fox (lol, puns, sorry) and he has morals and he stands up for the people who are being wronged. It’s always an interesting story to talk to kids about because they get torn between ‘is he doing the right thing or is he doing the wrong thing?’. But this film I absolutely love. The scene with the mice in the church makes me absolutely bawl.

Big Hero 6
I couldn’t do a Disney appreciation post without mentioning Baymax. He is one of my favourite animated characters of all time. There are so many moments which absolutely make me burst out laughing. Baymax is the loveliest. This is another one that makes me cry… I mean how can you not? There’s always some death in Disney films… ergo tears. But I love the relationship between Baymax and the unexpected heroes. There are so many gif worthy moments from Big Hero 6 and there’s always one that’s appropriate. Plus it helps that he is super cute.

Brave
I love Merida. I love her attitude. I love her voice. I love her hair. I love how strong she is. She’s not afraid to stand up for herself. I love that in this film she goes on a total voyage of discovery… for herself, for the traditions of her country, for her mother. The soundtrack of this film is also wonderful. The animation in this film is incredible. The fact they make ALL of her hair look like it’s real hair amazes me. Good work people. Made me cry, obviously.

Tangled
Ah, Rapunzel. One of my favourite fairytales of all time. When I found out they were making a film of it I was so excited. And the film does the story SO MUCH JUSTICE. I love this film. Rapunzel is sassy, a bit up and down and awkward at times. Flynn makes me laugh the most because he’s a bit Gaston-esque but is quickly bumped down a few pegs! I love their developing love story and Rapunzel’s contrasting feelings towards wanting to leave and wanting to be free – that is one of the scenes that makes me laugh most. Naturally, the ending made me cry.

So what have we learned about me from this list?

  • I love Disney
  • Disney films always make me cry
  • I have a thing for soundtracks. (I might do a post on favourite Disney songs in the next few weeks)
  • Disney princesses who are a bit sassy and stand up for themselves are my favourite kind of princess

Beauty and the Beast love!

Now for something a bit different. I don’t normally talk about my collections… other than my book collections obviously!!

So… you ask me who my favourite Disney princess is there’s no question that Belle is. She is incredible. She’s sassy, she’s bookish, she’s intelligent and she’s kind. I mean she gets a library for crying out loud… what a lucky woman!

FOr Christmas this last year my wonderful bestie bought me this incredible print of the rose from Beauty and the Beast. Just look at it. I cried when I got it. She knows me so well. It never had a home, but hung in my bedroom. Now it has a home… with all the rest of my Beauty and the Beast collection! Tsum tsums and Pop Vinyl figures alike! I’m also a lucky bean that this same bestie bought me some Belle Vans too. I adore them.

So when I heard that Disney were releasing a Beauty and the Beast tsum tsum collection I just knew I had to have them! I managed to obtain Gaston, Lumiere and Cogsworth at the Disney shop in the Metro Centre but none of the others. I was awfully sad. I was straight on Amazon… although Belle and the Beast were 3 times the price the others were I HAD TO HAVE THEM. I ordered Belle and the Beast online but was still missing 2 of them… there was still no Maurice or Phillipe. I had 5/7 and needed them all. Two days later my wonderful cousin Kate and my adorable goddaughters surprised me with my last 2… TADA. Look at that glorious collection. They’re all so cute.

So now my collection of Beauty and the Beast things is almost complete… I just need Cogsworth and Lumiere Pop Vinyl figures and then I’ll be a happy bean. However, next year when the film comes out there’s bound to be a WHOLE LOAD of more stuff for me to own. WOOHOO. I’m nervous about the new film. But that’s coming in another post!

What about you? Whos’s your favourite Disney princess? Are you a Belle fanatic as much as me?
