Mid-Year Freak Out tag

So… I wasn’t tagged by anyone to do this (that I can tell) BUT I did see it over on my brilliant buddy Cora’s blog… so I thought I would do it anyway!

Last week, I did a little half year round up, but I thought this blog tag was a quick way of rounding things up more concisely and with a bit of fun thrown in! If you’d like to do this tag yourself, go for it! I’m not going to tag anyone necessarily, but let’s all spread the bookish love!

Here we go!

1. Best book you’ve read this year?
The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie. Hands down best book I’ve read this year so far. I just think it’s incredible, and I can’t wait to use it in my classroom!

2. Best sequel you’ve read this year?
Now… this is going to have to be a shared prize between Hero at the Fall by Alwyn Hamilton (a finale) and Beyond the Odyssey by Maz Evans (the 3rd in a 4 series). Both books made me feel A LOT OF THINGS making me heavily emotionally invested in both series.

3. New releases you haven’t read but want to?
Probably lots… however, I am very curious about Scythe/Thunderhead by Neal Schusterman.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
Oooh, now there’s quite a few… I wrote a whole blog post dedicated to the kids books I’m excited for. But on the YA side of the coin (since that blog post hasn’t gone live yet), that mantle has to go to Holly Bourne for Are We All Lemmings and Snowflakes?

5. Biggest disappointment?
All of this is True by Lygia Day Penaflor. I didn’t hate it, but I just wanted more from it. The premise sounded amazing and some of the characters were interesting, but it just didn’t quite hit the spot.

6. Biggest surprise?
Slay by Kim Curran. I knew very little about this book when Usborne sent me it so for me, when I read it, I was transported to being a teenager again, loving life, loving boybands and loving Charmed. A total winner for me.

7. Favourite new to you, or debut, author
Now, I’ve gotta say that Leigh Bardugo takes this title as I read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom for the first time this year and LOVED THEM. So so much. But also, if I could give an honourable mention out here, I’d give it to the wonderful Shea Ernshaw – her book, The Wicked Deep, is just exceptional.

8. Newest fictional crush.
Kaz Brekker. No more needs to be said.

9. Newest favourite character?
I mean, how long do you have? Too many to mention.

10. Book that made you cry?
(So so so many, I cry at ALL OF THE BOOKS) 1000 Perfect Notes by C.G.Drews. That book is HAUNTING.

11. Book that made you happy?
Theatrical by Maggie Harcourt. (Check out my review here to find out why!)

12. Favourite book to film adaptation?
OH. LOVE SIMON. I’ve not actually read the book yet though.

13. Favourite post you’ve done so far this year?
REALLY? Lord. I think posting more regularly with my ‘Happy posts‘ has been good for me. They’re lush to look back at

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year?
Are we talking covers? Cause man, there’s an awful lot of choice! Partly because I’m a MASSIVE fan of shiny covers… Spark by Alice Broadway. Man, what a cover!

15, What book do you need to read by the end of the year?
I mean I should probably read all of the books on my TBR… but the one people keep shouting at me for is The Hate U Give.

So there we go!

Thanks for reading! Don’t forget to let me know if you agree/disagree with any of these answers! See you tomorrow!

I loved the Nowhere Emporium and Beyond the Odyssey, and also really liked Slay and Theatrical 😊
SO excited for Are We All Lemmings and Snowflakes?; I love Holly Bourne’s books (particularly the Spinster Club trilogy)
