S4S – Characters I’d Go On A Date With…

Evening #SixforSunday pals,

How are we all on this fair Sunday? It’s been very sunny (but chilly) in Newcastle today. I’ve been for my breakfast, cried at my book on the bus home (standard Elliott craic really) and have scheduled all of next week’s blog posts… I know, productive OR WHAT?!

Today’s #SixforSunday post was one which took me some time to think of because I had TOO MANY ANSWERS and then was brutal and had NO answers… so bear with me!

Today we’re talking:

Six characters I’d like to go on a date with

Now I’m listing characters, regardless of their sexuality (because let’s be frank, they’re fictional so it won’t happen anyway!)

  1. Izzy O’Neill from The Opposite of Okay.
Yes, she’d frighten the life out of little old me, but she’s HILARIOUS and I have such a weakness for people who make me laugh.
  2. Kaz bloody Brekker from Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom.
Do I even need to explain this one?!
  3. Luvian Fen from State of Sorrow.
I love this sarcastic, charming, witty twat man
  4. Jin from Rebel of the Sands trilogy.
JIN THO. I mean, I can’t NOT want to go on a date with him. I think he is one of my biggest fictional crushes in the world.
  5. Amani from Rebel of the Sands trilogy.
She’s badass, she’s brilliant, she’s funny – what more could I possibly want?!
  6. Emery from The Paper Magician trilogy
I adore this man. I miss him so much. I may have to read The Paper Magician again soon.

What about you? Who are some of your fictional crushes? I have ALL KINDS of other people on my list… but those, I think, are my final 6. Ask me again in a few months and I’m sure it would look VERY different!

Remember to share your #SixforSunday posts using the hashtag!

S4S – Fave LGBTQ+ characters

Good afternoon friends!

How are we all this fine (but chilly) Sunday?! I hope you are all well. I was in London yesterday for the Scholastic Book Feast blogger event (see my post coming next week for more details!) and today I’m just chilling.

You’re not here to hear how my weekend has been though, you’re here for #SixforSunday I know your priorities!

Today’s #SixforSunday prompt is:

Favourite LGBTQ+ characters

Surprisingly, all of my fave LGBT+ characters are all male characters!

  1. Jack from Jack of Hearts and Other Parts by L.C.Rosen
He just made me laugh SO much. I loved him. I MAY have to reread this book sometime soon.
  2. Simon AND Blue from Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
I couldn’t choose between them, so I get to choose them both.
  3. Aaron from More Happy than Not by Adam Silvera
I just wanna hug him. I’ve BEEN there. Poor Aaron
  4. A from Someday/Every Day/Another Day by David Levithan
Tbh, I could have chosen ANY of David Levithan’s characters, but A is one of those characters who has stuck with me for a few years now. I really love the character of A.
  5. Aled from Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
I remember reading this book and LOVING Aled so much. This is another book I need to reread sometime soon. Would DEFINITELY recommend.
  6. Jimmy from I Was Born for This by Alice Oseman
I loved Jimmy. In fact, I loved MOST of the characters in this book and Alice Oseman does SUCH GOOD diverse characters.

So… since the men are repping here… can you all shout your fave LGBTQ+ characters at me? I need more of them in my life!

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the little hiatus last week… I’d had a very busy weekend and I didn’t have my usual blogging time! I am back now, with a blog EVERY DAY next week to make up for my silence!

Today’s #SixforSunday prompt is:

LGBTQ+ faves

Some of my utter faves, in no particular order:

Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda – Becky Albertalli

The Lovers Dictionary – David Levithan

I Was Born For This – Alice Oseman

More Happy Than Not – Adam Silvera

Proud – Various authors (review to come!)

Jack of Hearts and Other Parts – L. C. Rosen

I am so so glad that #SixforSunday is supporting and celebrating all things bookish LGBTQ+ this month. Please share your favourite LGBTQ+ books, chracters, authors and illustrators this month!

Let’s show the world we are PROUD.

S4S – Bookish hates

Good morning Sunday!

How are we all in this here final #SixforSunday in January?! How did that happen? Where did January go? (To be fair, I’m glad… because it measn it’s closer to Summer and WARMTH)

Anyway, you’re here for #SixforSunday I see? And what will we be talking about today…

Bookish hates

Oooh, controversial one Steph! So things I don’t like to read, or things that put me off books?

  1. Series that are 378343568 books long
This is INTIMIDATING. Unless I’ve started a series from book 1, I am SO unlikely to get nvolved in a series longer than a trilogy.
  2. Girl changes for bad boy trope
NO SIR. This bothers me so so much.
  3. Covers with actual people on the front
    I don’t know why… but I just am not a fan.
  4. When names aren’t capitalised on the front covers of books
I know sometimes this is done for stylistic reasons, but it bothers me so much (I think this is teacher me talking here!)
  5. Comments which say “you can’t possibly say that every book you read is 4 or 5 stars”
I mean, I can? Because I choose all the books I read, so I’ll generally choose books I think I’m going to enjoy.
  6. Long chapters
By this I mean like chapters that are LOOONG. I love a short-ish chapter length. (I can’t put a number value on this dislike right now… but long chapters turn me off so much)

LOL. This are such non-committal things, but still, things that I don’t enjoy about the bookish world I live in.

See you next week for February’s #SixforSunday, in which we start celebrating LGBT books! Don’t forget all of the prompts for January – July can be found in this blog post!

S4S – Bookish loves

Hello friends!

It is Sunday again. HOW DOES THE WEEKEND GO SO QUICKLY? I’ve had such a lovely week this week, that it’s only fitting that this #SixforSunday is celebrating things that are excellent about books!

Today we are celebrating:

Bookish loves

Yep. Only 6 things I love about books. I’m going to go with characters/plots/genres I love the most.

  1. ANYTHING WITH MAGIC IN.
I am SUCH a sucker for magic. If there’s even the tiniest bit of magic in a book, I AM THERE. I would really love to be magical.
  2. Romance
I am A BIG SOFTIE (I know, you’d never guess it!) and I’m all about that couple who have a lovely relationship. I’m all about first kisses, bad boys with a heart of gold, shipping a couple forever and then it happening. I’m a big lover of love.
  3. Potions and such things
YEP. I think this comes from the magic loving thing, but I love any kind of potion-y thing. I’m just a sucker. (Mel, I’m looking at you)
  4. Musical books
Not books of musicals, but books that throw musical references in. I’m ALL ABOUT music making an appearance into books. I think it just adds another dimension to a story.
  5. Folklore/mythology
LOL YEP. If a book is based on a folklore, or even has its own folklore, I am THERE. I love stories within stories. I just love stories.
  6. Reading positive depictions of teachers
Teachers get a BAD rep in a lot of books, so when I come across a book where there’s positive representation of teacher/teacher figures, it makes me so happy. (This is a whole other blog post I could write about teacher representation in YA novels… but we’ll leave that for another day!)

Let’s be real, that doesn’t even scrape the surface of the things I love about books, but it was the first 6 that came to my fingertips as I typed.

I’d love to know your 6 bookish loves! Don’t forget to link to me and use the hashtag #SixforSunday if you’re sharing on twitter. I love seeing the #SixforSunday love spreading around the place!

See you next week!

S4S – Bookish Wishes

Well hello, it is I the #SixforSunday fairy again!

How are we all on this fair Sunday? What have you all been reading today?

I’m here today to share my answers for this week’s #SixforSunday:

Bookish Wishes

6 wishes I have for my bookish self in 2019?

  1. Melinda Salisbury and Sara Barnard to collaborate.
    This should NOT surprise anyone.
  2. Release dates to come quickly.
There are SO MANY books I’m excited for this year that I need them to come quicker… I LOVE THE BOOKS OK?
  3. Another Kaz Brekker book
Now we know this isn’t going to happen, but a girl can wish!
  4. More of my favourite characters
Let’s be real, I just want more Simon/Blue, Twylla (Mel, I’m looking at you), Amani/Jin. I want more chances to be a shipper basically. I’m all about the shipping.
  5. More Northern events
COME ON GUYS, LONDON ISN’T THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN HOST EVENTS. *ahem*
  6. More people reading and loving MG/YA
I LOVE seeing people who don’t usually read MG and YA reading cause it makes my heart so happy. Just cause you’re not a teenager or a child doesn’t mean you can’t read those books… YOU CAN READ ALL OF THE BOOKS.

So yes. Bookish wishes for 2019. More of my faves, more chances to see my faves, more books. This should not surprise ANYONE.

A massive thank you for joining in this week, I think #SixforSunday has had it’s most people this week and it makes me so happy! I’m loving all your posts!

See you next week!
