Mini reviews: graphic novel brilliance!

Good morning everyone!

I am here with some more graphic novels that I’ve read in the past few months – these reviews are WELL LATE (sorry about that!). My kids (and my partner and I) are still totally loving graphic novels, and I’m more than happy to get some more, read some more and share with them… because then we all win ha!

Miles Morales: Stranger Tides – Justin A Reynolds and Pablo Leon

Miles Morales has just about gotten used to this being Spider-Man thing. Keeping Brooklyn safe, taking down bad guys, and finishing his homework—he’s got this! But when Spider-Man is invited to a launch for a brand-new video game, things go sideways fast. Anyone who plays the game is frozen, and it’s all because of a villain named the Stranger. He’s judged humanity and found it lacking, and his idea of justice is extreme. Left with the fate of the world in his hands, and the clock is ticking on Miles. Can he turn old foes to friends and find the answers he needs in time?

Blooming love Miles Morales me. This is the second graphic novel and I was very excited to read it… and to pass it on to my kids! I loved the new villain in this and the messages around mental health too – so important for children to read these messages! When half the world freezes, Miles must learn to depend on others to fix it… especially when someone he loves dearly is in trouble! I just loved this! I just want more and more Miles graphic novels!

Investigators: Heist and Seek – John Patrick Green

When rare paintings go missing, the InvestiGators are called on the scene…the ART SCENE! Mango and Brash go undercover and under canvas as internationally renowned painters to expose a crook who has truly mastered the art of CRIME! Can they recover the missing masterpieces and save the city art museum’s fundraising gala before it’s too late…and they run out of appetizers?

Blooming marvellous. Love how filled with puns and word play these are. This series is just such fun and they are so popular in school! Book 6 and I’m nowhere near bored! When popular art starts going missing, it’s up to the Investigators to get it back! This made me cackle at times! Can’t wait for more!

Bumble and Snug and the Angry Pirates – Mark Bradley

Best friends Bumble and Snug are Bugbops – little monsters filled with BIG feelings! Join them on imaginative comic adventures while they encounter pirates, unicorns, ghosts and lots of other magical creatures, learning about the world outside and inside along the way. Bumble and Snug are going on a big adventure to … have a picnic! But when they accidentally get lost, they’re both cross – is their adventure ruined?

This is very cute! I read this for a thing, and then promptly proceeded to buy the next one because I enjoyed it so much! Bumble and Snug are great friends and work well together – I’m definitely more of a Snug though! Amazing illustrations that just jump out of the page. Think kids will find this laugh out loud rollicking fun!

Bumble and Snug and the Excited Unicorn – Mark Bradley

Best friends Bumble and Snug are Bugbops – little monsters filled with BIG feelings! Join them and a VERY excited unicorn, in this new, full-colour graphic novel, as they go on a thrilling, funny adventure and learn about the world outside and inside.

These Bumble and Snug graphic novels are full of raucous fun! When Bumble and Snug make a new friend who gets VERY excited, the pair realise that not everyone’s idea of fun is the same! Made me chuckle this. Am going to have a very happy class with this!

And that’s it for today! I’ve had a productive graphic novel reading year so far, so I’m sure I’ll be back with some more graphic novel mini reviews in the next week or so!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you have any recommendations for graphic novels for me to buy that would work for my Y6s, I’d love to hear them!
