The Cartoons That Came To Life: a funny and gorgeously illustrated book filled with adventure and wit!
Finn loves drawing comic strips featuring his two cartoon heroes, Arley and Tapper. But after being teased at school, he finds he can’t draw them any more – and is shocked to see them climbing out of his sketchbook for real! With the help of his friend Isha, Finn needs to find a way to draw them back to their comic world – and quickly …
Cartoons tells us the story of Finn. He loves to draw comic strips, and his favourite in particular is that of Arley and Tapper. They are characters that he created himself and they’re his favourites. He’s not having the best time at school and drawing comics helps to distract him from the terrible bullying happening… or at least it used to until it all gets too much and Finn finds that he just can’t go on making his comics and he makes the massive decision to chuck away his sketchbook. What happens when he wakes up the next morning is unbelievable and much friendship, comedy and bravery ensues!
This story made me chuckle a fair few times and I know it has done down really well with some of my Y6s. With the mix of brilliant illustrations (by the incredible Phil Corbett) and a story that is engaging, you can’t go wrong. This will appeal to a wide range of kids because there’s something for everyone – whether its characters, comics, funny names or the mischief, there’s something fot all different kinds of reader!
Books like this are brilliant because they not only LOOK amazing, but they do amazing things. This book looks at bullying, friendship, how we’re all unique and how all of these things make us who we really are. I think lots of kids will see something of themselves in Finn – we’ve all been through something like him; we’ve all been ‘different’ somewhere.
This book would be perfect in any KS2 classroom! It is full of humour and brilliant illustrations! I know lots of children at school are going to love this just based on my class’ reaction to it!
