S4S – Overdone tropes

Good morning everyone!

It is Sunday. How are you all on this very normal Sunday in Newcastle? The weather isn’t all that and we’re just chilling here! Let me know how you’re doing in the comments!

It is #SixforSunday time once again… we are powering through these weeks! I can’t believe we are on our 3rd prompt of this month! Woo! This month is flying!

Today we are still talking tropes, but today we’re talking:

Overdone tropes

Which tropes do I think are done TOO much? Even if I love them, which do I think are overdone? I found this quite a hard one and I don’t know if it’s because I vary my reading enough that things don’t bother me, but here we go nonetheless…

  1. Dead parents
  2. The bitchy girls ruin the life of the plain Jane
  4. Chosen one
  5. Unrealistic endings
  6. The makeover

Yeah. STOP WITH ALL OF THESE. Especially 3 and 6. They bother me the most I think!

Remember to share with me YOUR #SixforSunday post because I’d love to know which ones you think are overdone and what you think of mine… I hope I’m not some outlier who has a completely different list to everyone else haha!

There’s no #SixforSunday chat tonight because I am otherwise engaged… but there will be one next week! With a giveaway!

See you all soon!

I hate it in fiction when actual unattractive girls don’t exist. They’re ‘plain’ because they’re not vacuous and arrogant like the mean girls who judge them. That way when they meet a hot guy and they replace their virgin glasses and fix up their hair they go from dowdy to knock-out overnight. This is particularly a problem in old movies, but every time it’s used I cringe from the ridiculousness.
