What we’ve been watching #6

What started as a one off post has definitely turned into a series on my blog.

I’ve posted a few of these now and have been totally surprised by how popular the posts were! Who knew you guys would be so invested in the films that I’d been watching? Luckily, my girlfriend, the film-lover in my life, and I go to the cinema all the time (so prepare yourself for one of these more and more often ha).

Joyride

A film that Rach really wanted to see – the trailer didn’t give TOO much away and that intrigued me. A woman, her baby, a boy and a journey across Ireland – that’s about all you get from the trailer. I had some theories about what it was about, and I wasn’t far wrong! Let’s be honest though, we went to see it because Rach loves Olivia Coleman (and I love a trip to the cinema). We sat and watched and thoroughly enjoyed… let me tell you, this BROKE ME from about half way through. It is beautiful in both emotion and cinematography – some of the scenes just had me in absolute awe because they just looked *chef’s kiss*. That kid is an absolute hero – he’s got more maternal instinct in him that a lot of people in the world. AND WE LOVE JERRY too (yay for a Derry Girls cameo). I’m glad it ended how it did – we love a set up and a pay off. Just gorgeous. I’m glad Rachel made me go see this on a Sunday night – perfect entertainment for a Sunday night. This was like a good cry and a cuddle wrapped up in one.

DC League of Superpets

Not gonna lie, this was totally a me film – I bloody love a lol and I love a bit of animation (I’m sure Rach was happy to come see it with me too… she’s happy to watch anything). What happens when you’ve got Superman’s dog, Krypto, and he refuses to work with other animals… but then he ends up needing their help? You get this… and this made me lol so much. I loved all the jokes – loads for adults in this as well as kids (cause let’s be real, adults enjoy these films just as much as kids so you gotta put jokes in there for the big folk). Krypto is a gorgeous little dog and Superman is lucky to have him! The joke about Paw Patrol in particular got me.

Robocop

Yes I’m 33 and I’ve never seen Robocop. You’re sitting there reading this thinking ‘Stephanie, how have you never seen Robocop? Why are you watching it now?” Besides the fact Rachel loves to introduce me to all the films, it’s the 35th anniversary this year, so Cineworld were showing it. I enjoyed it! I was trying to find the word to describe the action (because it’s so very different to action films these days) and Rach comes up with “deliberate” – the perfect word to describe the action in this. Recognised a few of the villains which did make me light up! Definitely thought Lewis was gonna be the Robocop like… loved all the explosions and gun scenes – I love a bit of action me!
