Good morning!
Now, Film Friday was something I started way back on my blog when my wife and I first got together as I started watching A LOT MORE films, but now that I am probably a bonafide cinephile, I think it’s fair that Film Friday gets a full place on my blog!
Today, I thought I’d share my favourite films from 2025.
For those interested: the website I use to log my film viewing is called Letterboxd. It’s amazing if you’re interested in logging your film viewing… I LOVE a statistic and my wife and I often compare stats (she’s WAY more of a cinephile than me though, so her stats are MUCH more impressive, ha).

Choosing favourite films is sometimes as hard as favourite books, and it’s like what do I mean by a favourite film? One that moved me the most? One that I’ll go back and watch again the most? (Cause Beauty and the Beast is my fave Disney, but it certainly isn’t the one that I rewatch the most!)
It’s something I deliberated all year. I had a list and I’d be constantly adding to it and moving things about… but I think this is what I decided on as my top 12 (I chose 12 because on the Letterboxd app, which is what I use way more than the website, everything is displayed in rows of 4, so 10 was incredibly displeasing!)

- Sinners
Genuinely a cinematic masterpiece from beginning to end. Michael B Jordan is absolutely incredible in this and the music just does things to me that I didn’t think possible. It’s scary and beautiful and emotional and thrilling. If you’ve not seen it, I fully recommend you do. - Sorry Baby
Now this, I knew very little about going in to it… and I think it changed my perspective of myself a little bit when I watched it. This is a human story if I ever did see one: life comes with a whole lot of shit, peace, love, joy, kindness… the list goes on. This is a film that will stay with me for a long, long time. - Wicked: For Good
If you know me at all, you know how much Cynthia Erivo as Elpheba is just the one. I just think she is incredible. Ariana does brilliant things in this. I really like the new songs (which I know not a lot of people do). No Good Deed made me just enraptured at the cinema. The costuming. It’s all just exceptional. - Thunderbolts*
This made me cry… a lot. I love the Marvels. I love a superhero. I love the underdogs. I just thought this was brilliantly done. It made me laugh; it made me cry. If you’re after an action film that’s got heart, look no further. - Frankenstein
We were really lucky that we got to see this in our local indie cinema as part of their BFI premieres around the UK. Despite seeing it late at night (when I’m usually exhausted after work), I was absolutely enthralled. This made me laugh; it made me cry; it’s GORGEOUSLY done. Yes, it’s long… but my god is it worth it. - Superman
Another vote for superhero films. I just really appreciate the good guys in films. The bad guy is done SO BRILLIANTLY in this… I HATED him. I hated him so much I almost walked out. I loved how this dealt with humanity being flawed and of course I cried. - 28 Years Later
Horror films are now a massive part of my life (hi wife, if you’re reading this) and a big passion of mine. We saw this twice in the cinema. It’s scary and I jumped a lot, but that’s the thrill of horror films! They keep you wanting to watch on. I cried because there’s quite a lot of nods to the North East in this and I’m just that kind of person. There’s a lot of tension in this, but there’s also some funny and some gentleness too. (I can’t wait to see The Bone Temple). - Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning
Mad Lad Cruise has a big part of my heart. In 2025, I watched almost all of the Missions and honestly, yes, they might be ridiculous, but my god are they ridiculously entertaining. Just get your eyes set upon this film EVEN IF you haven’t seen any of the others because it is just brilliant fun. - Wake Up Dead Man
This was another we saw as part of the BFI premieres at our local indie (we don’t and won’t talk about the 3rd one we saw). As a massive fan of the Knives Out series, I was really excited to see this. And it did not disappoint. It’s still got that quintessential wit, cleverness, twists and turns of the others. Recommend giving the whole series a watch if you want something fun and twisty. - Companion
I’m as surprised as the rest of you that this is on my list, but I really enjoyed it! It was unexpectantly funny and she was just an utter queen. I would like to watch it again sometime just to relive some of the lols. - Zootopia 2
I can never have enough Disney in my life. This made me laugh and it made me cry. I love that this deals with some really heavy topics in ways that are accessible for everyone. Gorgeously animated and it does good in the world – well done those script writers! - Karate Kid Legends
This is another one that I did not expect to be on my list because I knew NOTHING about Karate Kid before seeing this film (I still don’t really now, ha). I appreciated that I didn’t need prerequisite knowledge to enjoy this. It’s full of action, it’s sentimental and it’s loads of fun. What more reason should someone need to watch just a proper fun film?

Thanks so much for stopping by today!
See you soon for more filmish fun!
I’d love to know what were your faves from 2025? Any films on my list that surprise you? Have you seen any of my faves – what did you think of them?
